RJ Fontaine (she/they) is a self-taught, Slavic-American artist born and raised on Dena’ina land. As a spiritual practice, their hand painted stories aim to magnify kaleidoscopes of Being within a single water droplet, wound, prayer, or moment in time. Click here to view original paintings.

RJ’s painting “Better Together” was featured as a limited-edition sticker for Spenard 2nd Saturday Fall Quarter 2024. 100% of sticker proceeds went to benefit YWCA Alaska. ‘Better Together’ is a tribute to the Spenard community and our tenacious desire to help one another succeed. In May 2025, the original piece will be on view at International Gallery of Contemporary Art.

In 2023, Arts Anchorage published an article about RJ’s journey from a cult-like upbringing in Knik, Alaska, to Hollywood, then back again a decade later to a new creative life.

In 2024, RJ completed The Alaska Writers Workshop, a 7-week residency offering a cohort of 3 Alaskan writers the space and time to further develop a full-length play that they are currently working on. Her original dark comedy play, Death and Other Girly Things, will be available on New Play Exchange for professional and educational use by late 2025.

When she is not creating or spending time with loved ones, RJ works in service of The Nave, a hub for community, culture, and art in Anchorage, Alaska.
