ARTIST STATEMENT:

I am a Slavic-American, self-taught artist born and raised on Dena’ina lands. My acrylic paintings are an intuitive practice inspired by folklore, mental illness, spiritual iconography, and play. As the daughter of a Slavic immigrant and a survivor of trauma, I like exploring themes of transformation, ancestral healing, and dark whimsy as vehicles to new understanding. “PORTALS,” my upcoming solo exhibition, represents the windows God is said to open whenever doors are closed. Some portals are powerful or soothing; others are unhinged. The process of creation moves me to a new dimension of being; I hope these paintings can transport you, too.
